Another glamorous and sustainable fashion evening was held in the city on 14th April at Indonesian Embassy. New Delhi Social Workers’ Association (NDSWA) in association with Ministry of Textiles promoted Indian Handlooms. On the occasion of Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti, Dr. Udit Raj the parliament member and MP promoted Khadi and Silk. This initiative is taken under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana.

The hand spinned fabric Khadi is associated with our roots and to our culture and it is absolutely eco friendly and organic fabric. In order to make Khadi a luxury fabric, many designers came forward with their positive foot forward.

Designers like Charu Parashar, Diksha Khanna, Pallavi Singh, Rina Dhaka, Varun Bahl showcased their khadi inspired collection and the show was beautiful. Charu Parashar had a lovely folk music and it felt so connected with the collection.

Mr. Gaurav Grover, President of NDSWA said “This association will give Khadi & Silk a platform to present India in an international market, also that will encourage designers to work with this fabric. It will give immense pleasure to NDSWA to get associated with such initiative and make familiar Indian fabric to the global market and highlight the favourite project of our Hon`ble Prime Minister.”

In Catch Now’s exclusive conversation with the Designer Rina Dhaka about Khadi being a Luxury Fabric, she quoted, “Khadi is actually a Luxury Fabric. It allows you to breathe, that is a luxury. Khadi is a handloom and more you wash it, it gets softer. Khadi is a pure definition of Luxury in itself. Being Khadi at our doorstep in India we underestimate it’s qualities. The charkha is the finest technique of weaving.”

When Asked, how she’ll tell our readers about why they should go for khadi. She gave us three reasons:

  1. Its organic and ecofriendly.
  2. It is by Indians as Mahatma said be Indian by Indian.
  3. It sets us apart from the rest of the loop. It’s about the journey of a weaver’s life.
